A Christmasy Meme :)

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? Definitely wrapping paper for Christmas!!! For family anyways. For friends I'll usually use cute gift bags since they're more practical and reusable. But there's just something about spending an entire evening wrapping gifts for my family that makes me super happy <3

2. Real tree or Artificial? I love the smell and feel of a real tree (long-needle, thankyouvermuch), but I like the fact that fake ones are so much less maintenance. Usually I want my tree up just slightly longer then a real tree is good for. When I was little we always had a real tree, but then my parents got older and more sisters sprouted out of the ground and we got a dog that likes to eat any/all plant-life, so then we switched over to a fake one. It was acceptable, but nothing beats the Christmasy smell of a real tree <3

3. When do you put up the tree? This year I actually put my own up the Saturday after Thanksgiving! So excited! My parents usually wait until like... the week before Christmas. I always told myself when I was younger that when I grew up, I'd have my tree up WAY sooner ;)

4. When do you take the tree down? It varies. I like to keep it up as long as possible, but it typically comes down right after New Years.

5. Do you like Eggnog? Most definitely! I always get excited about the seasonal eggnog shakes from McDonalds, haha :]

6. Favorite gift received as a child? I'm not actually sure. Since my birthday is on Christmas Eve, its hard to remember which were birthday gifts and which were for Christmas. However, from the ones I can remember, I can honestly say I can't choose. I was very happy with all my gifts as a child. I think the ones that stick out the most though were a Pocahontas sleeping bag/nightgown set, a really cool antique-looking treasure chest jewelry box, and Skydancers. Does anyone remember Skydancers?! It's amazing I didn't take anyone's head off, haha :)

7. Hardest person to buy for? Any of my immediate relatives that I don't see often, but still feel the need to buy something for.

8. Easiest person to buy for? My friend Michelle, probably. We have a very similar quirky sense of humor and entertainment. So usually I just get her some random novelty gift that is semi-useful but mostly just awesome to say you own, haha :)

9. Do you have a nativity scene? Nope. I don't have a spare surface to put it on either, heh

10. Mail or email Christmas cards? I don't have much experience in this area since I never really needed to when I was a teenager. I could always just hitch a ride on my parents cards lol. THIS year, however I did decide I would make and mail out Christmas cards to people. I didn't get them sent out by my deadline *fail* so now my updated goal is to have them out before New Years =P haha

11. Worst Christmas gift you ever received? Hmmm. I dunno. I think I enjoyed all my gifts. When I was little my older sister would tease me and buy me underwear and then make me think that was all she got me. The main gift usually made up for the underwear though, haha. Oh oh oh no wait I got one. When I was 16 or 17 I got a ridiculously ugly purse/clutch/monstrosity. It. Was. Hideous. I didn't say anything then and the only reason I'm saying something on here is because I'm pretty POSITIVE that the person who gave it to me was being passive aggressive and vindictive ;)

12. Favorite Christmas Movie? I don't know if I actually have a favorite. Irving Berlin’s White Christmas is an obvious favorite but I rarely watch it on Christmas. I usually watch it July or August when I'm needing a snow/Christmas fix lol. The movie I enjoy most on Christmas isn't even a Christmas movie. For some reason, Watching "Bringing Up Baby" with Cary Grant and Kathrine Hepburn on Christmas is my family's tradition. I don't know why and I don't even remember what started it, but its just what we've done ever since I was little. Love it so much :)

13. When do you start shopping for Christmas? It varies, but I usually start seriously considering it around October. I like to give myself JUST enough time. A little less even, so I feel the Christmas gift buying rush. I like that feeling! I actually JUST bought the last of my Christmas gifts on the 23rd at like 11pm! Haha, wheee xD

14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? No. I probably have considered it but there really is entirely way too much risk involved =P lol

15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas? Hmmm. I can't choose. I love my mom's brown sugar ham. I also really like white hot chocolate and homemade toffee xD

16. Lights on the tree? Wait.... this is OPTIONAL to some people?!?! Of COURSE lights on a tree!!! Good grief! O__o

17. Favorite Christmas song? "Carol of the Bells", "Have Yourself A Very Merry Christmas", "12 Days of Christmas", "O Holy Night", "The Little Drummer Boy", heh..... I think I just love Christmas songs in general, haha.

18. Travel at Christmas or stay home? Both. It used to be "stay at home", but then I got married and moved away from my family. Now Christmas doesn't feel like Christmas to me unless I can spend the day with my family during the day and then relax alone with Brent before bed. Our first year was missing the former (cuz we were in Korea). Last year was fun but overwhelmingly busy. And this year is going to have to miss out on the later. *sigh* :(

19. Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer? I guess so? I'm too tired to want to try though, hah

20. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning? My family always open gifts on Christmas Eve after supper. My birthday gifts are before, and Christmas gifts came afterwards. I also always get to pick what we have for Christmas Eve since it's my birthday and then we have a big Christmas lunch the next day. Lots of cooking for my mom, but she's a prooooo :)

21. Most annoying thing about this time of the year? Christians who brag about how they don't celebrate Christmas. I know a girl who is actually celebrating winter solstice instead of Christmas this year because of various roundabout reasoning she is known for shoving in people's faces in a belittling fashion. I guess she's trying to be all "advant garde" and whatnot. Personally, I just find it to be foolish and bahumbug-like..... roar.

22. Favorite ornament theme or color? My own tree this year has white and purple lights with cupcake ornaments, multicolored glittery balls, and Brent's and my crystal snowflake anniversary ornaments (3 this year!!!). My parent's tree is always full of very mismatched ornaments. I love it. Most of them have a story behind them and some of them are over 50 years old! It makes it feel very personal and warm when each ornament has a memory attached to it. That's how all "family" trees should be like!

23. What did you want for Christmas this year? A relaxing, fun, hassle free, cozy, snowy holiday. I got it! :)

24. Angel on the tree top or a star? Oh, either is wonderful. This year I got a snowflake topper, actually. Growing up, my family had an beautiful angel topper who held a bouquet that lit up. I remember getting in trouble for taking her off the tree so I could play with her :)

25. Favorite Christmas dinner? Growing up each and every one was fantastic. I think some of my favorites were the glazed ham years. I think we had a duck year too (love me some duck)! Mmmmm and mashed potatoes, stuffing, Mom's homemade cranberry sauce, chocolate cherry rum cake, homemade toffee, and all sorts of other stuff.... oh man. I have the best of both worlds now because MY mom is a wonderful homey country-style cook and BRENT'S mom is a wonderful fancy/gormet-type cook. DOUBLE WIN! Unfortunately that also means double the post-holiday weight loss ;)

Ah yes. Christmas really is the most nostalgic time of the year for me :)

I wish Brent was here to enjoy it with me in person, but I am so glad we could spend time together on Skype still! He even got to get off work early for my birthday! He made a potentially depressing situation very merry and bright for me! So thankful for him <3

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas as well! Have a very merry night!
